The Keys of Marinus has sometimes been described as a "who-done-it" but it's not until episode five that there's a Perry Mason type trial with the Doctor as attorney for the accused. The accused is Ian in a court and land where the accused is guilty until proven innocent. Each episode of this story is almost stand-alone. They work well individually but do have the running story arc of finding the keys. It's also been said of The Keys of Marinus that it might have been a predecessor to the Key to Time season, the chief difference being the amount of time it took to tell the main story. This is another story that takes the time to do what modern television sometimes doesn't: story-build and character-build. The Keys of Marinus is really good television.
