Whovians U.N.I.T! Let's put forth the effort to help a mother and daughter in need. To avoid foreclosure on her home, Julie Fabares (known by many as Julie Batgirl Ghostbuster Vader :) needs our help to finish raising almost 14k by no later than August 30th, 2014.

Like many people these days, Julie has been met with a financial challenge that is beyond her ability to overcome on her own. With her own health problems and despite her efforts to negotiate a different outcome, her home has fallen into risk of imminent foreclosure, and she and her young daughter are at risk of becoming homeless. Again, like many people these days. So what makes her situation special when so many have similar needs?

Julie has been a major part of the NOLA proactive local scene for a very long time. She's helped helm many a charity and donated her precious time and funds to organizations in need. Julie is well known as an active fundraiser for others, frequently in her various costumes. As a member of the Krewe du Who, the local Doctor Who fan group, the Louisiana Ghostbusters, the Bast Alpha Garrison of the Star Wars 501st Legion and the Krewe of Chewbacchus, Julie has made many friends with her varied efforts to raise charitable contributions for others. She also participates annually as a St. Baldrick’s Foundation Shavee.

Her sparkling personality and positive nature have moved many others to Pay It Forward. She's dynamic and it shows in everything that she does. So when she reluctantly asked for help by creating a web page asking for donations, many people rushed to her aid. This one part of the fundraising effort is ongoing and anyone can contribute any amount by going to the donation website at http://www.gofundme.com/KeepOurRoof where Julie has offered to share her writing and art with those who are able to contribute.

We've gotten half way there by putting her Go Fund Me out to the masses and several famous folk alike. Please donate what you can and share the link before Time runs out on August 30th, 2014!

The other part of the fundraising effort, to pay back what she’s paid forward, will take place in the form of a fundraising raffle at The Crown and Anchor English Pub, 200 Pelican Ave, in Algiers Point on August 23rd, 2014 at 6pm during the premier of the new season of Doctor Who. Local artists, businesses and Doctor Who fans are donating many wonderful prizes and it is expected that most raffle participants will win something. If you're in the Algiers area and are interested in donating and winning some prizes as well as watching new Doctor Who, come show your support! Here's the event page for more info:

If Doctor Who has taught us anything, it's to help others when the going gets tough.

A gangly man oft times dressed in tweed,

he always helps fellows in times of need.

You may think yourself someone that's inconsequential,

But in his 2000 plus years, he has never met one that wasn't special.

Krewe du Who is a community of enthusiastic Doctor Who fans, young and young at hearts. We are a diverse group, bound together by our passion for Doctor Who.
