What Jonathan Morris has created here is a very nice character study into the life of Mark Whitaker. The story starts set in 2011. Mark is pretty much anybody. He's a perfectly average guy who's just living his life and trying to cope with the death of his wife, Rebecca, who died in a car accident in 2003. After being sent back to 1994 by a Weeping Angel, he gets a note from his future self advising him to follow the instructions to the letter. Because he can save Rebecca, just like he did.

The Doctor and company follow Mark to the past and then through his life up to the moment that Mark has been waiting for - the moment to save Rebecca. His actions could change his own history and possibly his future. Morris does such a fantastic job letting the reader meet Mark, Rebecca, and all the people they met and whose lives they touched. The story never really stops and, for all that it does slow down to breathe, it's never dull.

Those slow moments give the reader a really good sense of character in Mark. You want him to save Rebecca but at the same time you know he shouldn't. Jonathan Morris has done very well here what Doctor Who seems to do with sometimes mixed results - it explores a single character and shows just how one person can make a difference. This is an excellent book. The timey-whimey-ness isn't too hard to get around and viewers of the televised series will pick up on the in jokes and self references pretty quickly. Highly recommended.
